Michael Lipsitz

Michael Lipsitz is an Associate Professor of Practice of Economics and Executive Director of the Master of Applied Economics and Data Science (MAEDS) program at Penn. He is interested in labor economics and industrial organization. In particular, he is interested in how the structure of business-to-worker and business-to-business relationships affect labor and product markets. His research focuses on noncompete agreements, constructing theoretical models of the impact of noncompete agreements and empirically examining their effects on workers, innovation, consumers, and productivity.

Michael received his PhD from Boston University and his BA from Haverford College. Prior to joining the economics department at Penn, he was an assistant professor in the economics department at Miami University and an economist at the Federal Trade Commission, where he worked on policy related to labor markets and analyzed mergers.
